Also I learned some new techniques for being a leader, teacher and coach.

I enjoyed reading this book. It is of course all about basketball and about coaching young men to get to peak performance. But I was impressed by the degree of emotional intelligence that Coach K described in working out what would be the best strategy to motivate both the team in difficult situations and individuals to get them to perform to the best of their ability for both their sake and that of the team. That to be honest seems to me what makes him such a successful coach - his ability to tailor his approach to maximize motivational impact. This is something that many of us could learn from to be more successful leaders.

Resonated well with me because (A) I was at Duke in K's early years and (B) I'm now a CEO working to be a better leader.Where it excels: While many books say, "do this" K explains why you "do this," which makes the lesson much more valuable. Focuses specifically on interpersonal skills, rather than vague over-arching principles of some Forunte 100 CEO. Gives lots of examples and the fact that I witnessed many of them myself (albeit on TV) helped me understand. Summarizes the points at the end of each chapter (though this could be improved).Where it's weak: K himself says he wants honesty, so here it is: He needs more confidence as an author and to set his sights higher. It's a "good" leadership/basketball reminiscing book that could be a truly _great_ leadership-only book if it were better edited to spend less time on irrelevant details of some game in 1988 and more time on being concise. Those details are entertaining, but we're business leaders, we need people to get to the point. The publisher probably said it needed fluff to sell. However, I'll bet a second edition with less fluff and promoted more as a true management book would sell more. In K terminology, the "heart" of this book is in its leadership lessons. We've already seen the games.One other troubling aspect: contradictions. K will talk about honesty with players and media, then later cite a ploy with Brian Davis and "blowing smoke at the media" before the second UNLV game. Those should be clarified.Either way, I recommend it. Coach, you helped me learn.

This book is very good. I bought the hardcover volume and I am very glad with it. However, I am a little bit surprise with its content and need to explain:1 - This book does not contain recipes for database administrators.Although it contains many chapters explaining architecture and features, such as how to deploy ASM, Data Guard, etc. It cannot be used by a DBA to learn how to do day to day administration. If that is your goal, I recommend searching another book, like Oracle Press' Install and Administrate Oracle 12c.2- It is perfect as a reference, but the text is not boring and anyone willing to know about a new concept will be very satisfied with this book. The appendix contains a complete commands reference in alphabetical order like ORACLE OTN guides (SQL REFERENCE AND PL/SQL REFERENCE), full of examples and text explaining them.3- The textual part is very creative. In it one can find real classess on each topics. The language is simple and enthusiastic. The examples are simple to follow and well commented and the name of the chapters are amazing. For example, instead of saying "Chapter 12 - Grouping functions", they decided to name it "Chapter 12 - Grouping things together", instead of Subqeueries, "When one query depends on another" and so forth.In final words, as a DBA, this book is an excellent reference and will allow me to learn new concepts. As a Developer, this book is perfect and gives real classes in SQL and PL/SQL as well as a very important chapter on how to use SQL PLUS properly.P.S. I don't know if the kindle edition will be helpful since this book is REALLY BIG and heavy so kindle edition may be too small for a good reading.cheers

In my opinion this book is missing details about Oracle 12c's Pluggable Database architecture. I expected specific content about both EM Express and Single/Multitenant configurations due to the subtitle of the book "Administer and Secure a Robust Cloud Based Environment". Although the old database architecture is still available for use, Oracle recommends new 12c databases utilize the single or multitenant pluggable database configuration. There are some screenshots of a CDB/PDB installation, (6 pages on Pluggable Databases in total) but other than that there are very few pages which detail administration tasks and specific architecture information within a "Cloud database" single tenant/ multitenant configuration in 12c. On the other hand, the book does holds good content as a quick reference guide and overview on many different aspects of Oracle databases. Perhaps for new DBAs, this book would be a welcome asset for those who like a quick dictionary type look up of any and all things Oracle on their bookshelf. However, for a more seasoned DBA it doesn't contain the depth I expected strictly based on the titile and subtitile.

Anja Grebe teaches art history at the University of Erlangen- Nuremberg/Germany. She is taking part in numerous international research projects and exhibitions and has published extensively on medieval and modern art history. Photos are so small, dvd photos are small and its slow to navigate. I get that there are just too many paintings to thoroughly cover all the works but the photos are so small! I would consider it more of a book of thumbnails. I had hoped that the dvd would give me access to better quality, larger photos than the website but it does not. If you're a fan of art, check out the Museo del Prado's excellent online collection.

I bought the book and DVD because my husband and I hadn't been able to visit the Louvre in our recent short trip to Paris. Even though I already had two large art books on the Louvre, I thought that this would be a great way to see the paintings that I had missed. The book itself is excellent; it is the DVD that I have major problems with. The disk claims to be a DVD which means that it should hold a little over 4 GB of data. This theoretical DVD only holds 228 MB of data including the software program which doesn't work very well for viewing the images; a CD holds almost 700 MB of data. The images on the DVD total 194 MB, and half of those 6,753 items are extremely small thumbnails. The largest image is 2,194 KB. I expected to get a DVD with relatively high quality images of the paintings and was extremely disappointed with what I received. Whoever put this DVD and software program together should be ashamed of themselves.

A collection of great art works, unfortunately many are reproduced here in very small versions, and even the accompanying CD has the same small pictures. Maybe it's just me, but I couldn't figure out how to enlarge them on my screen. I bought this for my artist significant other, just sits on the shelf in her studio.

A huge book with thousands of paintings. You definitely get your bang for the buck. The quality of the printings is mediocre, good enough for flipping through but not enough for closer study. For a general reader like myself, the descriptions attached to the paintings are informative but somewhat on the cut-and-dry side. I wish they were "juicier" although that is purely personal preference. Very happy I've purchased the book.

What can we say about the Louvre; it contains some of the greatest works of art in human history. Having had the great fortune of viewing quite a number of these paintings firsthand in the Louvre, I was extremely pleased to see that ALL the paintings in this grand treasure-trove were finally released. The main reason being, that I had seen works there that never seemed to appear in other art books, and memories alone cannot restore the original in detail in the mind’s eye, hence it cannot satiate one’s various reasons for being drawn to a particular work, be it for its aesthetic charm, psychological impact, creativity, color scheme, composition, etc. One such work was “The Young Martyr,” by Paul Delaroche.However, that example brings to light the main drawback of this ambitious volume. The image is sadly minuscule, as are the majority of artworks reproduced. I cannot fault the publisher too harshly, however, for these reasons. First, the huge number of works that the Louvre contains cannot be presented in one volume any other way. Second, if they did make this a multi-volume edition, it would have been too expensive for many people. Third, making this single volume gives people who never had, or will have, the chance to visit the Louvre a complete representation of their art treasures, all at a very reasonable price. Fourth, many art books aimed at the broad public have extremely poor color reproductions, some being an absolute insult to the artist and the art world. And while this edition does not boast the highest quality available, it nevertheless is “good,” especially considering the amount of works presented in this massive volume.Being an artist/author myself, I find the ability to open this book in the comfort of a favorite chair or sofa a great relief, sparing my eyes from the glare of a computer screen. This, again, brings to light another issue; namely that of the accompanying DVD. The images are likewise minuscule, and not worth the effort or strain.Nevertheless, the robust catalog that this edition boasts affords the professional or layman the ability to study lesser known artists and their works, thus broadening one’s knowledge and clarifying one’s vision about the exchange of ideas, from artist to artist, or from one school to another, and acquiring a better understanding of the chronological timeline of how tastes, influences and priorities change.As such, despite its flaws, for the price, it is a great addition to my library, and a book that anyone can pick up to gain pleasure from, or be inspired by one of the small images within to research an artist further elsewhere. But the wealth of artistic genius within this hefty tome is worth the sacrifices, as such, it is highly recommended for art lovers or art students interested in art history.

This is a magnificent and beautiful collection of perhaps the most important art museum in the world. It is a superb accomplishment to gather the whole entire collection of the Louvre. Alas, I can't give it five stars since I soon found out that most of the works are shown in small pictures. Lots of little pictures! I don't regret I bought it but I feel I must really tell you how I feel. Ultimately I am happy is in my library.

Some people have complained about the size of the paintings but there are plenty of large photos, all in color and the smaller ones are still big enough to see clearly. This is, after all, the entire collection of the Louvre, which is a massive undertaking and I think they did a good job.

This book is a monster in size and weight, but well worth the price if this sort of thing is your bag. I visited the Louvre a month before purchase, and will be much better informed about particular paintings the next time I go. The photography is well done, and the descriptions are informative.
